Robert Speed Pallister was the second child of Robert Speed Pallister and Hannah Northope born April 10th, 1885 at Bill Quay, Gateshead, Co Durham.
Robert was living at home in 1891 at 10 Reservoir St, Wardley, Heworth where his father was a coal miner.
In 1901 Robert was still living at home, now 48 Reservoir St, & he was now working as a coal miner/driver. As well as his parents, his older sister Hannah & younger sister Lily were living there.
By 1911 Robert’s father had died & his widowed mother Hannah was living with him as was his younger sister, Lily. Robert was head of the household at 44 First St, Wardley Colliery & was described as a stoneworker at the mine. They had 2 boarders who were both miners.
Robert married Elizabeth Ellison in July-September 1912 at Easington. Elizabeth was born February 11th, 1889 at Wardley, Gateshead, the daughter of Jane Burnip & John Ellison, a miner. The 1901 census shows that Elizabeth & her family were living next door at 46 Reservoir St, Wardley to Robert & his family.
Robert & Elizabeth were to have 4 sons – Raymond, Robert S, John Ellison & Thomas E.
The 1939 register shows Robert & Elizabeth living at 2 Malone Gardens, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. Robert was a general labourer.
By 1939 son Raymond, who was still single, had moved south & was living in Birmingham & working as a machine tool store keeper. Son John, unmarried, was also living in Birmingham & working as a general labourer. Son Robert, also single, had moved south & was living in Chard, Somerset where he was an assistant pasteurising cream for butter.
Robert died in Jan-March 1956, his death being registered at Durham North.
Elizabeth, aged 83, died in July-September 1972, her death being registered in Durham South East.
